Does teeth whitening have any side effects?

Laser whitening might cause slight tooth sensitivity. This is totally normal and is only a temporary side effect. To prevent or to minimise the sensitivity, flour gel application can be done before the whitening process. Using desensitizing toothpaste for two weeks before the whitening will also help prevent or minimise this sensitivity. This slight tooth sensitivity is expected to fade away within 24-48 hours after the whitening.

How long does teeth whitening last?

Effect of teeth whitening operation can last between 3 months and 3 years on average based on daily care. Tea, coffee, smoking and alcohol use are important factors in decreasing whiteness. Teeth whitening should be repeated every 6 months to 1 year. This results in a more cost-effective and longer lasting, whiteness effect.

Are there different teeth whitening methods?

There are three different methods available to whiten live teeth.

• At-home teeth whitening
• Office type (applied by the physician in the clinic) teeth whitening (provides effective solutions since it is fast and under the control of physician)
• Combined whitening where office type whitening is supported by at-home whitening (this provides most effective and long-lasting solution)

How is office type whitening applied?

It is the teeth whitening methods applied in the clinic. The teeth are cleaned beforehand, and the whitening gel is applied on the teeth and activated by the physician with UV rays or laser. Multiple sessions can be required until the color of teeth reaches the desired whiteness.
