What causes crooked teeth and how is crooked teeth fixed?

Macrodontia that develops in childhood years, causes crooked teeth or gap-teeth. Such dental or skeletal problems are fixed by the help of orthodontic treatments.

Is there an age limit for orthodontic treatment?

There is no age for treatment of crooked teeth. It can be treated at any age. However, as age increases, the duration of treatment increases too. Your orthodontist should be consulted before the age of 12 for treatment of skeletal disorders that we call misaligned jaw (forward or backward). This treatment will become more difficult in older ages. We recommend an orthodontic examination for our patients before the age of 7-8.

What kind of problems does a patient with crooked teeth encounter if he or she doesn’t receive orthodontic treatment?

An aesthetic smile increases the person’s self-confidence. Orthodontics is the most healthy and natural treatment of properly aligned teeth. Presence of crooked teeth means gaps between the teeth are difficult to clean. Hard to clean areas are prone to caries. In other words, orthodontic treatment for crooked teeth should be performed not only for aesthetic purposes but also for health purposes.

Do braces hurt when you get them on or when they are tightened?

No pain is felt when braces are placed. Bracket placement and irradiation are completed in half an hour. The first few days are called the adaptation period and may cause slight irritation and leakage in the mouth. These pains will go away in a few days.

Are teeth damaged after dental braces are removed?

After your braces are removed under supervision of a specialist; they will not be damaged if you carefully clean and care for your teeth and gaps.
